One of PLAN’s first “projects” was its Representative Payee
Program which began in 1996 and has grown rapidly over the
years due to the sheer demand for this important service.
PLAN
of PA serves as an organizational representative payee for
mentally disabled individuals receiving benefits from the Social Security
Administration. Unlike
other organizational representative payee services in the
region, PLAN does not require that an individual have a case
manager to become our client.
We arrange for the client's Social Security
benefit checks to be deposited directly into an individual,
interest-bearing checking account.
PLAN of PA ,
together with the client and family/support staff, prepare a
budget and assumes the responsibility for
paying their rent, electricity, gas, telephone, cable services, etc.
Spending money is provided for the beneficiary based upon what
their budget allows. We encourage clients to develop budgeting
and money management skills with the hope that they will
eventually be able to manage their funds independently.
