What is PLAN of PA?

Planned Lifetime Assistance Network of Pennsylvania (PLAN of PA) is a private non-profit 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to serving adults (18+ years of age) with mental disabilities – including mental illness, mental retardation, brain injury, and autism – and their families in the greater Philadelphia area. We provide fee-for-service Case Management, Trust and Representative Payee services. Our service area includes the five Pennsylvania counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia. PLAN of PA is supported by fees for service, membership dues, fundraising and individual donations and both operating and project foundation grants. PLAN of PA is a member of the National PLAN Alliance.

What is the National PLAN Alliance?

The National PLAN Alliance is affiliated with the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI). It is the umbrella organization for 26 PLAN organizations located in 21 states. PLAN is a grass roots care model originated by parents and family members to provide long-term support for their loved ones with mental disabilities. PLAN’s mission is to ensure the continuing care of our clients when the families cannot manage alone or can no longer assume the caretaker role. PLAN of PA seeks to provide the same kind of oversight of the family member as loving families provide.

A Brief History

PLAN of PA was founded in 1989 by a group of families with mentally disabled family members, and its board of directors still includes a significant number of members who have a loved one with a mental disability. PLAN of PA was conceived as a reflection of the personal experiences and concerns of these families. It was established to ensure the ongoing care of persons with special needs now and into the future. Our goal is the development of a trusting relationship between PLAN of PA’s friendly and sensitive staff and each client to achieve the highest level of independence and quality of life of which each client is capable.
